Common Table invites candidates to apply to a full-time Director of Communications & Operations position. This position will report to the Lead Pastor. Please note, a weekly Sunday presence is required for this position. Candidates would not be expected to work on Fridays and Saturdays.
Who we are
Common Table is a vibrant, welcoming, and justice-oriented faith community. On Sunday mornings, you will find us singing, reading scripture, praying, responding to God through giving in various ways, and celebrating the Eucharist. We exist for the sake of cultivating ministers of reconciliation to go into Richmond and the wider world to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
We are queer and straight; cis and trans; young and old; single and partnered. Our families are blended, multi-racial, foster, and intergenerational. We represent different races, ethnicities, and countries of origin. Some of us have experienced faith communities that were unwelcoming to us or to those we loved, or where we found over time that “all are welcome” was a statement with an invisible asterisk. Some of us are “ex-vangelical”; some of us have been in the same faith tradition for decades; some of us love praise songs, and some love hymns. All of us have questions, and none of us have it all figured out.
Who you are
You are a creative, self-starting professional with a passion for storytelling in the service of greater goods. You have a deep respect for words: their power, their nuances, and the importance of using them with intention and care. You love social media when it’s harnessed for good, and you’re a savvy and innovative user of it. You are organized enough to stay on top of deadlines, to juggle multiple projects, and to think ahead. You speak or are willing to learn the language of progressive theology in the Wesleyan tradition. You enjoy and relate sensitively to people from diverse backgrounds. You have a passion for making people feel welcome and seen–especially people who may not be accustomed to feeling welcome and seen.
